IT infrastructure at the Port of Seattle and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport remains inoperative. The initial report of disruptions emerged on Saturday morning.
A significant cyberattack seems to have targeted the Port of Seattle, which manages one of the busiest maritime hubs in the United States and the nearby Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. This incident has led to several systems going offline.
According to an update posted on the social media platform X, the Port of Seattle acknowledged the outages and suggested a potential cyberattack. “Earlier today, we identified disruptions in our systems, possibly due to a cyberattack. We have isolated our critical systems and are working diligently to restore full functionality. We do not have an estimated time for resolution at this moment,” the official airport account shared on Saturday afternoon.
As of Monday morning at 8 a.m. Pacific Time, both the port and airport’s websites were inaccessible. Persistent outages affected phone systems, which had been confirmed as non-functional since Saturday. This disruption also impacted communication with the airport police department’s non-emergency line.
By Sunday morning, the airport had advised passengers to check flight statuses ahead of time and to expect delays at security. “Due to technical issues, in-terminal screens are not displaying flight information correctly. Please consult with your airline for up-to-date gate information,” the airport posted on X.
The Port of Seattle, which ranks as the fifth-busiest container port in the U.S., initially disclosed the issue on X, noting that both port and airport were facing challenges with internet and web-based systems.
Neither the Port, the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, nor the City of Seattle responded immediately to requests for comments. The Federal Aviation Administration directed inquiries to the airport.
