Huntress, a provider of managed security platforms, has teamed up with CyberCert to introduce the SMB1001 cybersecurity standard to Australian businesses.
This collaboration aims to bolster the cyber defenses of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) through Huntress’s broad network of partners.
Spearheaded by Reece Appleton, Huntress’s regional director for Asia-Pacific, and Peter Maynard, co-founder and CEO of CyberCert, the initiative will enable several Huntress-managed service provider (MSP) partners to offer SMB1001 certifications.
The SMB1001 standard features a multi-tiered certification system with levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond, each reflecting a higher degree of cybersecurity compliance.
“The SMB1001 CyberCert standard is designed to make cybersecurity standards accessible to SMBs that lack dedicated IT and security personnel,” said Maynard.
He emphasized that the standard is more affordable and simpler than more intricate certifications like ISO/IEC 27001.
Huntress will subsidize certification costs, empowering partners to help their clients enhance their cybersecurity measures.
“The SMB1001 standard addresses a significant gap in the SME sector,” said Appleton.
This collaboration meets a critical market need, assisting partners who have found it challenging to align their clients with more complex and expensive standards or frameworks.
Although not intended to replace established frameworks like the Essential Eight or ISO 27001, the SMB1001 standard can complement them or serve as an introductory step.
“The CyberCert and Huntress initiative has been pivotal for us in the industry,” noted Michael Gibby, managing director of MSP SEQ IT, an early adopter of the partnership.
Gibby highlighted its effectiveness in simplifying cybersecurity processes for clients.
By offering accessible and affordable certification options, Huntress and CyberCert are bridging the gap between enterprise-level security measures and the needs of smaller businesses, ultimately enhancing the overall security of the digital landscape.
