EC-Council, a cyber certification body based in New Mexico, has garnered attention from U.S. National Cyber Director Harry Coker Jr. for its recent initiative to advance cybersecurity education. The organization has committed $15 million in scholarships, benefiting over 50,000 students and aiming to strengthen the cybersecurity workforce, as reported by The Record, a cybersecurity news outlet from Recorded Future.
The scholarship distribution will see $8 million allocated to educational institutions and U.S. military families, funding the “Essential Series” programs offered by EC-Council. The remaining funds will support participants in the Certified Cybersecurity Technician certification. Wesley Alvarez, EC-Council’s Director of Academics, highlighted that these scholarships can be applied at any U.S. secondary or post-secondary institution or directly through the council. Jay Bavisi, Group President of EC-Council, emphasized that this initiative will improve access to cybersecurity careers and prepare the next generation of ethical hackers, which is vital for defending against cyber threats.
