RAD Security highlights these figures to underscore the difficulties enterprise defenders face in detecting supply chain and cloud-based threats. The cybersecurity startup provides a behavioral cloud detection and response solution designed to establish a “consistent, predictable, behavioral baseline” for an organization’s cloud environment, enabling the identification of unusual activities, according to their responses to emailed questions from Dark Reading.
This method, termed “behavioral workload fingerprinting” by RAD Security, involves creating behavioral fingerprints that reflect the deduplicated hierarchy of programs, processes, and files exhibited by a container image during runtime. These fingerprints, generated through a proprietary algorithm, contain “golden signals” that encapsulate key metrics and behaviors indicating the health and security status of each container, according to the company.
RAD Security’s system detects “drift events”—deviations from the established baseline—and incorporates posture and identity context to help defenders comprehend the occurrences within the environment.
“Anomaly detection isn’t something you can directly validate within your environment as it operates like a black box,” the company explains. “Additionally, there aren’t enough cloud attacks to use machine learning for analyzing millions of attacks and discovering new ones.”
RAD Security asserts that their approach is well-suited for cloud environments because it is transparent and portable.
The team aims to make behavioral fingerprints the standard for behavioral detection and response in cloud security, covering everything from the early stages of the software supply chain to runtime, according to RAD Security.
