IIT Madras and IDBI Bank Join Forces to Create Cutting-Edge Cybersecurity Lab for Healthcare Sector

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has joined forces with IDBI Bank to establish a new Cybersecurity Laboratory aimed at advancing and implementing security technologies across critical sectors like healthcare, fintech, aerospace, and more.

The primary goal of the lab is to develop cutting-edge, market-ready cybersecurity innovations and facilitate the transition of research findings into commercially viable products, with a particular focus on mobile technology applications.

The newly inaugurated ‘IDBI – IITM Secure Systems Lab’ (I2SSL) was officially opened on July 31, 2024, at the IIT Madras campus by Rakesh Sharma, the Managing Director and CEO of IDBI Bank, alongside Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and other distinguished guests.

As the reliance on Internet connectivity and automation continues to grow, industries such as healthcare, finance, transportation, government, and telecommunications face increasing threats from cyber-attacks. This new lab will address these challenges by focusing on cybersecurity for various sectors, conducting experimental evaluations, developing test cases, and creating hardening protocols to manage and mitigate cybersecurity risks effectively.

The I2SSL will emphasize Secure Systems Engineering, aiming to craft comprehensive solutions that tackle security issues from a theoretical foundation to practical implementation. The lab will also serve as a hub for students, promoting cybersecurity awareness through online courses, capture-the-flag (CTF) competitions, hackathons, and hands-on projects, thus nurturing the next generation of cybersecurity experts.
