Microsoft has unveiled the latest update for Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5600 (KB5058493) on the Dev Channel, offering a range of fresh features, system improvements, and bug fixes for its Insider community.
The release, presented by Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc, focuses on enhancing user experiences, particularly with the new Copilot+ for PCs, system optimizations, and features tailored for enterprise environments. Additionally, it resolves issues present in earlier builds to improve overall system stability.
Introducing Advanced Copilot+ PC Features
One of the standout updates in this build is the integration of intelligent text actions within the Click to Do feature, available for both AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs. This feature allows users to select text using WIN key + mouse-click or WIN + Q, enabling them to highlight text blocks easily.
The new options include:
- Summarizing the selected text
- Creating bullet-point lists
- Rewriting the text in various tones such as casual, formal, or refined.
Powered by Phi Silica, an innovative Small Language Model (SLM) embedded in Windows, these actions work seamlessly, providing immediate results directly within the system. Users can then copy the rewritten content straight to their clipboard.
This feature is accessible to individuals using a Microsoft or Microsoft Entra account, with English as the default language and a selection of at least 10 words. French and Spanish users will initially get access to summarization, bulleted lists, and text refinement, with full rewrite options coming soon.
Gradual Rollouts and Additional Features
For Windows Insiders who have enabled the “Get the latest updates as they are available” setting in Settings > Windows Update, the following gradual changes are being introduced:
- Dynamic Lighting: Devices that support this feature can now be safely removed through the taskbar’s “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” icon.
- Settings Enhancements: A new FAQ section has been added to Settings > System > About to quickly address common queries about system setup, performance, and compatibility. Additionally, a new support agent is rolling out in Settings, with its initial availability in the Beta Channel, soon to be followed by Dev Channel support once machine learning models are ready.
This update reflects Microsoft’s continuous effort to improve both user functionality and system performance, ensuring that Windows 11 remains at the forefront of technological innovation.
New FAQ Section and Enterprise Features
A newly added FAQ section, highlighted within a red box on the About settings page, offers quick answers to common system queries, enhancing the user experience.
Entra ID Integration for Enterprise Users
AI-powered features in Paint (version 11.2503.381.0+) and Notepad (version 11.2503.16.0+) are now compatible with Entra ID, enabling enterprise users to access advanced tools like Cocreator and Generative Fill in Paint, as well as text summarization and rewriting capabilities in Notepad. This functionality is available for IT-managed PCs across the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels.
Stability Improvements in This Build
This update addresses various system stability issues, including:
- Start Menu: Fixed the crashes that were affecting the Start Menu’s reliability.
- File Explorer: Resolved a deadlock causing freezes, missing tooltips, and crashes when closing the explorer.
- Taskbar: Corrected keyboard focus issues and eliminated flickering in media controls during app previews.
- Voice Access: Resolved issues causing crashes in Spanish language mode.
- Windows Spotlight: Fixed a bug where the “learn more about this picture” prompt got stuck on top of other app windows.
- Live Captions: Addressed crashes from the previous build.
- Miscellaneous Fixes: Enhanced item color selections in MMC and fixed a bug causing apps like Microsoft Word to freeze during printing.
Ongoing Known Issues
Despite many fixes, there are still some known issues:
- After resetting a PC, the build version might incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26200, but this will be addressed in future Beta Channel updates.
- The PC reset option in Settings > System > Recovery is currently not functioning.
- Some users with Xbox Controllers connected via Bluetooth may experience a bugcheck. To resolve this, Microsoft suggests uninstalling the “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” driver via Device Manager.
- On Copilot+ PCs, intelligent text actions in Click to Do may take longer to respond after a build or model update, and support for Spanish/French remains limited.
- There are ongoing investigations into issues with Narrator’s enhanced image descriptions and Voice Access’s flexible language support on Copilot+ PCs.
Important Notes for Dev Channel Insiders
This build is based on Windows 11, version 24H2, and is delivered through an enablement package (Build 26200.xxxx).
Features are being gradually rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, with faster access for users who have enabled the toggle in Windows Update. However, some features might remain in preview, change, or not reach general release. Localization work is also still ongoing.
Preview features, such as Recall and Click to Do, may not be fully functional.
