The National Information Centre (NIC) plans to establish seven cybersecurity operations centers with a main office in Delhi and additional locations in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Kolkata, and either Mumbai or Pune, sources informed ET.
According to a senior government official, these centers will be interconnected to ensure that if one site fails, its responsibilities can be seamlessly transferred to another without manual intervention.
These cybersecurity hubs will play a crucial role in safeguarding the digital infrastructure of the central government and its various state departments. They will monitor for cyber threats, detect security breaches, and identify unauthorized access and policy violations.
The managed service provider in charge of these centers will proactively address cyber threats, ensuring the security of the government’s digital assets, including software and ICT infrastructure, another official stated.
The NIC, as the government’s IT arm, oversees the management of websites, servers, computers, laptops, and other digital assets.
The contractor selected to build these centers will also conduct forensic analyses of digital devices such as servers, computers, laptops, hard drives, and mobile phones used across central government offices and branches, according to an official.
Additionally, the centers will feature an attack simulation platform, a server workload protection solution, and deep-web and dark-web scanning capabilities. They will also incorporate AI and machine learning models trained on global best practices.
