- Smooth Continuity: Existing chats and contact lists are preserved and integrated into Teams.
- Billing and Credit: New Skype purchases have ended, but active subscriptions will remain usable until they naturally expire. Skype Credit balances can still be used during this period.
- Data Freedom: For those choosing not to move to Teams, Microsoft offers a simple export tool to retain personal data.
As of 2023, Skype’s active user base had shrunk to around 36 million, while Teams had grown to more than 320 million monthly users. The shift isn’t just about numbers—it reflects a broader change in how people interact, collaborate, and stay productive in hybrid environments.
