WhatsApp Rolls Out “Advanced Chat Privacy” to Strengthen Conversation Security
WhatsApp has officially launched its new Advanced Chat Privacy feature, aimed at giving users even greater control over the privacy of their conversations.
Building on its core commitment to end-to-end encryption—which ensures that only the sender and recipient can access messages—this update introduces powerful new protections to prevent sensitive content from being shared or stored outside the app.
Stronger Safeguards for Individual and Group Chats
Available for both one-on-one and group chats, Advanced Chat Privacy allows users to block the export of chat histories, prevent automatic downloads of shared media, and restrict the use of messages in AI-powered features.
Once enabled, participants cannot easily extract content—whether text, images, or files—from WhatsApp, helping ensure that conversations stay private, secure, and contained within the app.

Enhanced Group Privacy for Sensitive Conversations
The Advanced Chat Privacy feature is especially valuable in group settings where participants may not all know each other personally but still need to discuss sensitive topics, such as in health support groups or community organizing efforts.
WhatsApp emphasizes that this tool is designed to foster trust within groups, giving members the confidence to share personal or confidential information securely.
How to Enable Advanced Chat Privacy
Enabling the feature is simple:
- Open the desired chat or group.
- Tap the chat name at the top of the screen.
- Select “Advanced Chat Privacy.”
- Toggle the setting to “On.”
Once activated, the restrictions apply to everyone in the chat, preventing the export of conversations, automatic saving of shared media, and the use of messages within AI features.
While Advanced Chat Privacy dramatically reduces the risk of chat content being exported or misused, WhatsApp acknowledges that determined individuals could still capture information manually, such as through screenshots.
The company notes that this is just the first version of the feature, with future updates expected to introduce even stronger protections—potentially including screenshot blocking.
The new privacy setting is currently rolling out to all users on the latest version of WhatsApp. Like previous features such as disappearing messages and chat locks, Advanced Chat Privacy reinforces WhatsApp’s commitment to user security in an increasingly connected world.
With this update, WhatsApp continues to lead the way in private, secure messaging, helping users keep their most sensitive conversations exactly where they belong—within the chat.
