As Cyber Threats Surge, Wisconsin Launches Initiative to Train More Cybersecurity Professionals

WISCONSIN — With high-profile data breaches and cyber threats dominating the news, a Wisconsin initiative aimed at expanding the cybersecurity workforce is gearing up for its third year amidst growing urgency.

Holly Yuan, who leads the Cybersecurity Research and Outreach Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, highlighted the program’s rapid expansion. “In just two years, we’ve experienced remarkable growth,” Yuan noted. “Currently, over 120 students are enrolled in our cybersecurity program, and we offer a diverse range of cybersecurity courses at UW-Stout.”

Yuan emphasized that the program’s curriculum is designed around real-world scenarios, including recent incidents like the cyberattack that severely impacted Ascension health care systems.

“Attacks such as the one on Ascension underline the critical need for practical, hands-on training,” Yuan added.
